Virginia Beach is a great place to visit in the summer, but also has plenty to do year-round.

Historical Sites

Fort Story – sits at the Northern end of Virginia Beach. The Fort has historical significance but is also still in use today.

Cape Henry Lighthouse – serves as the official symbol of the City of Virginia Beach. Admission costs $2 per person to climb the lighthouse and enjoy a great view of Virginia Beach.

The Old Coast Guard Station & Museum – is an actual Coast Guard station that was built in 1903. It’s registered as a Virginia landmark on the National Register of Historic Places. The museum has two floors and charges a small fee to enter.

Family Fun

The Beach – here is very wide and clean. However, it gets crowded in summer. Admission is free, and there are dozens of shops, restaurants, and bars along the boardwalk.

Virginia Marine Science Museum – features exhibits of aquatic life  from the Chesapeake Bay area. Many of the exhibits are hands-on and great for kids. They also have an I-Max theater.

Cruiser Rentals – You can rent bikes along the boardwalk. Some shops even deliver right to your hotel.

Atlantic Avenue – most stores here offer big discounts in the offseason.

Go Karting at American Indoor Karting – has an indoor racetrack, which makes it a great option when the weather doesn’t cooperate. It’s a ten-minute drive from the Boardwalk, and a good way to get away from the crowd.
