American Airlines has a very clear message for its frequent flyers: “We’re listening.”
The airline today introduced a demo version of its new AAdvantage award booking tool, and the results are promising.
Essentially the tool allows AAdvantage members to search for award seats using a monthlong view that shows you when seats are available to your desired destination. This is a dramatic improvement to the shot-in-the-dark approach to award travel that has been the accepted standard for too long.
The Dallas Morning News does a good job summarizing the new tool’s other features: “The new color-coded calendar allows users to see 14 days before and after their desired travel dates for each type of award. The calendar can be shifted to see months before and after by clicking on an arrow. The site also shows the types of tickets available for each day.”
There are some caveats, of course. The AAdvantage award booking tool can only be used for awards on American and American Eagle, not any of the Oneworld alliance airlines.
