Aqaba Shopping – Shops, Stores, Best Buys & Inside Tips

Aqaba Shopping

If you’re heading to Aqaba chances are you’ll need a few items when you get there! Whether it’s necessities or gifts to bring home, here are some shops, stores, best buys and inside tips for Aqaba shopping.

If you’re looking for some well-priced liquor this is just the place. Whisky is sold here for a much lower price than at the frontier. Sami’s Supermarket is a great liquor shop, with a good selection of alcohol, wines and beers, both local and imported. Imported items are more expensive, local “whisky” (“Black Jack”) comes in at about 5JD the bottle and Palestinian wines are around 3JD while French ones more like 5 or 6.

The PC Store next to the Mosque at Haya Hospital circle has computers and other electronics if you’re in the market for such items. You’ll also find digital camera cards here for 13JD, and lower prices that Hagoop’s, the popular camera store in Aqaba. Also you may want to avoid Wadi Rum Photo shop- previous visitors have suspected them of dishonest tricks to get customers to come back and spend more money.

Definitely visit the Bakery in Aqaba.  Not only for bread, but for the army of delicious cookies that are baked daily. Try the shortbread cookies which are just waiting to be boxed up to take home, or the tea biscuits! The super friendly staff are ready to take on you a tour of the facilities to show how the Arabic bread is made, so be careful: it may be over an hour before you resurface from this wonderful place.

In Aqaba City Centre, head to the Market and try the ghawah coffee. This Turkish coffee – with or without cardamom – is truly a treat. You can buy the beans and cardamom spice whole, or ground together. You can also purchase the small cups and saucers, and little silver stovetop pots to make it at home. Everything you need for a truly delicious and unique coffee experience.
