Want miles with that?
Increasingly, consumers are answering in the affirmative, electing to earn miles and points when purchasing all manner of merchandise through the mileage malls operated by major airline and hotel programs.
As of this week, there’s a new mileage mall in town: Shop4Miles.
Shop4Miles differs from the networks of online merchants affiliated with the various travel suppliers’ programs in two respects. First, shoppers can choose to earn miles in a range of programs. For the time being, miles can be earned in the programs of Alaska, Delta, and US Airways. But the company’s long-term goal is to expand the partner roster to include all major travel loyalty programs.
Shop4Miles’ second benefit of note also involves choice. Unlike the airline and hotel malls, which only permit shoppers to browse one merchant at a time, Shop4Miles displays individual items from multiple vendors, ranked by price and mileage payout. For savvy consumers, that’s the Holy Grail: comparison shopping.
Through the end of the year, Shop4Miles is offering a 100-mile bonus for signing up on the site. Since there’s no cost to register, this bonus is a genuine freebie.
Editor’s note: Shop4Miles advertises in Tim Winship’s “FrequentFlier Crier” newsletter, but has no business affiliation with SmarterTravel.com.
