Baden-Baden is small but sweet, and it attracts a variety of tourists ready to experience a different time period and way of life. If you’re looking for taxi, train, bus or airport tips, then start planning your trip with these suggestions.
From the Airport
Take the hourly buses to or from Baden-Baden if you’re using Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden airport. If you’re coming from Frankfurt Hahn, you can take an early morning Express bus (#140) to either a train or the main bus terminal when you can pick up additional transportation (e.g., a main bus.) One note from fellow travelers is that the timetable is generally only in German, so be sure to ask if you have questions about the times.
The Train Station in Baden-Baden
The train station in Baden-Baden is not close to what you’ll want to see when you’re there. Instead of walking, take the bus from the train station into the center of town. Most people take Bus #201 because it runs every 10 minutes and conveniently stops in front of the major attractions. Because the line starts here, you’re almost guaranteed to find a bus, even if it’s not ready to go for another few minutes. You can also take the Express Bus #205 from the train station which has a faster route but doesn’t run as often as the 201. The ride shouldn’t cost you much over two Euros or take longer than 20 minutes.
Local Transport in Baden-Baden
There are a number of ways to get around once you get into the town. Functioning in the same way a trolley would, a City Train is open air (operating from March to October) and built to take you to the local major highlights of town. One ticket will get you a full day of unlimited travel. Or take a horse and carriage ride which is both a romantic experience, and a way to save your feet from any additional miles they may not be up for walking. This intimate experience will take you into Lichtentaler Allee, and your coachman can act as your guide if you have questions or want some inside tips. The S-Bahn may also be an option if you’re looking for a tram-like experience for a cheaper price than a City Train.
