Warnings and Dangers in Granada: Beware Around Cathedral
There are many popular attractions in Granada, but a trip to this city does not come without its risks. Here are some important warnings for avoiding dangers in Granada, particularly around the Cathedral.
At the Granada Cathedral of Incarnation, tourists and worshippers come to take in the sights of this landmark from the 16th century. However, pickpockets have been reported on multiple occasions. Beware of people who walk closely behind you, covering their hands with maps. They may be deftly reaching into your purse or backpack to collect money.
Gypsies With Rosemary
Gypsy women roam the area around the Cathedral, offering tourists rosemary. They will hand it to you and then expect money in exchange. The best advice, if you don’t speak any Spanish, is to return the rosemary and say “No tengo dinero,” (“I don’t have any money”) and then leave. If you do speak Spanish, you can explain that you have no cash, and then strike up a conversation. They should soon leave to avoid wasting time.
As you explore the sights of the Cathedral, you may find that you are often looking up. Keep in mind that animals come into the area, as well, and you may step in leftover messes if you aren’t cautious. Remember to keep your eyes on the walkway occasionally to be sure you are avoiding this inconvenience.
