From what I’ve seen, most Carnival cruisers happily get tipsy on tropical drinks and cheap beer. On December 3, those easy-to-please drinkers will have to move over for a more discriminating set. That’s because the Carnival Valor will be home to Carnival’s “Presidential Wine Cruise,” hosted by company president Bob Dickinson.
On this seven-night eastern Caribbean cruise, wine snobs and foodies, as well as the eager-to-learn, can participate in wine-tasting seminars, a cigar party, a Q&A with Bob Dickinson, and sessions with master chef Georges Blanc. The featured wines include vintages from Italy, Argentina, Australia, New Zealand, and New York.
I must admit that most of the wine connoisseurs I know would not choose to cruise with Carnival. Does the Carnival crowd become a little more refined and exclusive on these cruises? Or is the wine cruise a chance for the average Joe to learn about fine wines and gourmet food? You’ll have to shell out $579 or more for a cabin on this sailing to learn the truth.
