Tripping.com, the vacation-rental search engine, released some interesting survey results that detail the top reasons readers can’t take their dream vacation.
Of all respondents, financial security was listed as number one (21 percent), but the costs of accommodation (20 percent), transportation (20 percent), and lack of vacation time (20 percent) weren’t far behind. Having children or pets (10 percent) and a general fear of flying (4 percent) rounded out the list.
When broken down by age group, the results differed. Millennials were more likely to cite money issues and high costs than their older counterparts; 35-44 year olds were more likely to cite kids and pets; and baby boomers were more likely to say that nothing prevented them from taking their ideal vacation. (Lucky baby boomers.)
Additionally, respondents were asked what they would give up to afford their dream vacation. Across all age groups, 38.5 percent of readers said they would forgo six months of alcohol, cigarettes, and coffee to travel. Twenty-nine percent said they would downgrade their smartphone or computer, and 12 percent said they’d skip paying bills. (Don’t do that.)
