Chattanooga unveils family adventure program

It’s nice sometimes, in the midst of debating the chaos that is the travel industry these days, to stop and take note of some of the reasons why we travel in the first place. If you’re a parent, Chattanooga’s new spring break family adventure program should be one of them.

I admit I’m partial to Chattanooga. An old Southern town with history and charm to spare, it has completely reinvented itself as a tourist destination in the past few years to become a top pick of both Southern Living and FamilyFun magazines. It’s also where I learned to hang-glide late last year.

The city is making news this month with a new family program timed with spring break, March 20 to April 12, in which families can get a special “passport to adventure” for six of Chattanooga’s top family attractions: Amazing Race-like challenges at the Creative Discovery Museum, spelunking at the underground Ruby Falls caverns, kayaking along the Chickamauga Creek with Outdoor Chattanooga, and other things of a similar nature.

These custom activities are enough to fill a weekend or a week, and a quick look at the prices shows that it only takes a modest budget to participate. For parents in search of the right family vacation this spring, it’s definitely worth a look.
