Where to Shop in Copenhagen
The bustling city of Copenhagen has plenty of shopping to offer from large shopping malls to smaller boutiques. Here are a few places where you will be able to find anything that you need.
The largest and arguably most popular shopping street in Copenhagen is a pedestrian walking area that is actually comprised of five small streets. Known as Stroget, it is 1,111 meters long and considered the longest pedestrian only shopping street in Europe. Stroget offers plenty of outdoor cafes, shops, art galleries, gift stores, department stores, museums, and much more. There are a variety of stores to fit any budget from the popular department store Ilum to inexpensive outlet stores. While Stroget has a more genuinely Danish atmosphere, there are also other shopping options. Only two train stops from the airport, there is a mega-mall reminiscent of American shopping malls. Known as Field’s shopping center, the mall has anything you can think of, including souvenirs to take back home before heading to the airport. If you are looking for something unique to Denmark, then you might want to visit an shop that sells amber. The most popular place to buy amber in Copenhagen is the House of Amber, which has two locations in the city. The amber originates from hardened tree sap and is often found on beaches around the Baltic. You can buy the amber stones by themselves or purchase jewelry that has been fashioned from the coveted amber.
