Hot, Sunny Summers

If traveling in summer, pack clothing for scorching heat. A light jacket should suffice for your warmest layer. A “posher” outfit for night-time will help you fit in. Hat and sunglasses are essential. Don’t forget sunscreen with a high SPF. Keep putting it on! All that sunshine, water, and bright white stone can translate into severe sunburns. Mosquito spray is smart for night time. Bring a good guidebook. In the winter, especially inland, Croatia can get pretty cold.

The crystal clear water of Croatia comes with a price – stony beaches. Pick up protective rubber-soled slippers at any shop selling swim-wear. These will make swimming in Croatia a much more pleasant experience, not least because of the sea urchins hiding among the rocks. Getting in and out of the water can be a treacherous adventure. For the same reason, bring something soft to lie on at the beach.

If traveling any other time than summer, waterproof boots are a MUST, especially in Dubrovnik where some of the roads have steps. In heavy rain, they literally turn into fast flowing waterfalls!

Photo Equipment

Croatia’s scenery lures photographers from all over the world and doesn’t disappoint. Bring your best equipment. The city is beautiful and the light is great as it reflects off of the pale stone. A polarizing filter will come in handy and a decent telephoto lens will also help.
