Not a good swimmer? Not a problem! Almost everyone can float with ease in the Dead Sea. This salty sea is ten times saltier than sea water, which increases your buoyancy compared to a regular body of water. In fact, it’s not uncommon to see people floating in an almost sitting position, reading or chatting without effort.
The super salty water is claimed to have special healing powers, as is the sea bed mud. Grab a handful of the black mud and smear it all over your face or body for softer skin.
Unlike a traditional sea, you won’t have to worry about sharks or jellyfish, as the water is too salty to support any creatures (except algae and bacteria).
Where is it? Bordered by Jordan and Israel.
Where to stay? On the Israel side, book a balcony room with views of the sea at the Royal Rimonim Dead Sea. On the Jordan side, check out the Moevenpick Resort and Spa, where you can swim in their (non-salty) infinity pool while overlooking the Dead Sea.
What else should I know? Don’t dunk your head underwater here, as the salt is brutal on the eyes and mouth. Also, the seabed is rougher than normal beaches, so wear swim shoes if you can.
Who’s it for? Spa-lovers, sunbathers, anyone who needs healing.
