Delphi is a famous city in Greece, and it’s even recognized by the UNESCO as a World Heritage Site, which means that the city had a great influence in the Ancient world and contains a variety of well-known monuments. Whether you’re landing at the airport or taking a taxi or train, follow these Delphi transportation tips to ensure your trip goes great.
Tips for Taking the Public Bus
The public bus system in Greece is known as the ÊÔÅË, otherwise known as the KTEL. There are two main KTEL station in Athens, one of which serves the Ionian Islands and some areas of northern Greece and Peloponnese, while the second location serves central and northern Greece. The latter bus system is the one you’re interested in, and it’s officially located on 150 Liossion St., however, the actual location is on a narrow street a little past the official location.
You can buy tickets from a kiosk, or if the kiosks are closed, you can buy a ticket from the bus driver. If you buy your tickets from the bus driver, be sure to validate them in the gray or orange box inside the bus, otherwise, you may be charged a large fine.
Relax on the Train
While Delphi is small enough that you could walk around and see the main sights, you can also ride the train around the city, so you can see the sights while sitting back and relaxing. The white train has a charming look and is hard to miss. The train ride is free of charge in the month of May, and it may also be free of charge during the rest of the year, as well. You’ll also meet many locals while riding the train.
Get Around via Taxi
You can also get around the city via taxi, if you wish. The yellow-colored taxis are easy to spot, and you’ll even see luxury model taxis like Mercedes-Benz. The roads in the city are narrow and small, therefore, the taxis you see will also be quite small, which may be a shock to some people that are used to the larger taxi vehicles in North America.
