With the battle for Seattle currently running hot and heavy between Alaska Airlines and Delta, Seattle-Tacoma International has become one of the country’s fastest growing airports, vaulting from 15th to 13th busiest between 2013 and 2014. That furious growth rate shows no signs of abating.
Just this week, Delta announced plans to launch service on four new routes from Seattle, and to increase flights on one existing route.
- Daily service to Bozeman, beginning August 1, 2105 (currently Saturday-only)
- Three daily flights to Pasco, Washington, beginning November 1, 2015
- Daily service to Orlando, beginning December 19, 2015
- Daily service to Boston, beginning April 4, 2016
- Three daily flights to Victoria, British Columbia, beginning April 4, 2016
With the exception of Orlando, Delta’s new routes are currently served by Alaska, intensifying the head-to-head competition between the two carriers.
Other upcoming Seattle services, announced previously: flights to Denver beginning June 4 and to Hawaii’s Big Island beginning in December. Both, again, are already served by Alaska.
To handle the increase in flights and passengers, Sea-Tac is investing $1.9 billion in facilities upgrades.
