Likely hoping the story would be overlooked during the long weekend, Delta, on the Friday evening before Veterans Day, announced price increases for a range of SkyMiles award flights.
The increases apply to award flights booked on or after November 8, for travel between February 1, 2014, and May 31, 2014. Delta had already announced a separate set of award-price increases to take effect on June 1, 2014.
Among the latest changes:
- U.S./Canada Business/First Class Saver – increases from 22,500 to 25,000 miles
- U.S./Canada Business/First Class Standard – increases from 55,000 to 60,000 miles
- U.S./Canada Business/First Class Peak – increases from 70,000 to 75,000 miles
- Hawaii Economy Class Saver – increases from 20,000 to 22,500 miles
Even by the standards of loyalty programs, where playing fast and loose with rules and policies is the norm, Delta’s sneaky no-notice change is notable for its sheer nastiness.
