Kenya

When To Go

Because Kenya straddles the equator, it has up to 13 hours of daylight and consistently warm temperatures year-round. Most travelers avoid visiting during the long rainy season in April and May, when heavy downpours occur.

high season: June to September
low season: April to May, November to December
shoulder season: January to March, October

Weather Information

Kenya has two seasons, rainy and not rainy. In April and May, there are long rain spells and intermittent downpours, while in November, short periods of rain are common. During the summer high season, afternoon temperatures average 81 degrees with some cool nights, and rainfall is minimal. January and February remain mostly warm and dry, and are good months to visit.

Crowd Information

The summer months tend to be the most crowded, due to the high volume of vacationing tourists from around the world. This is also the time of the great wildebeest migration, when two million wildebeests and zebras migrate north from Tanzania into the Masai Mara.

Closure Information

Most coastal properties and tented safari camps close down for maintenance during the monsoon weather of April through May.

When to Save

Prices remain relatively consistent year-round, but reduced prices may be available during the rainy season of April through May.

When to Book

Booking in advance will help guarantee accommodations during the high season.
