Malaysia

About

With kaleidoscopic festivals, varied cultural activities, and breathtaking scenery such as towering skyscrapers, lush rainforests, and grand Buddhist temples, Malaysia is gaining popularity as a top Asian vacation destination. The country has 13 states with very diverse landscapes. Things to do in Malaysia range from sipping drinks at a tropical island resort or partying all night in hip Kuala Lumpur to exploring the oldest rainforest in the world. Flights to Malaysia land at various airports around the country, such as Kuala Lumpur International Airport and Penang International Airport.

When To Go

Malaysia attracts visitors with warm, tropical weather and various festivals and events throughout the year. The most popular time to visit is during summer and the December and January holidays. The fewest visitors, especially those on longer vacations, come during the spring and fall.

high season: December to January, June to August
low season: February to March, September to October
shoulder season: April to May, November

Weather Information

Malaysia experiences a tropical climate, with average temperatures ranging from 70 to 90 degrees throughout the year. The weather is strongly affected by the Northeast and Southwest Monsoon (a wind that brings heavy rainfall). Rain is expected between November and February in East Malaysia and along the east coast of West Malaysia. May through September is a relatively dry period.

Crowd Information

People visit Malaysia throughout the year, but many come for major events such as the Petronas Malaysian Grand Prix in April, Colors and Flavors of Malaysia in July, and the Merdeka Day (Independence) celebrations in August.

Closure Information

Most hotels, shops, and attractions remain open throughout the year. However, some hotels may close during the monsoon season.
