You just can’t stop the Mouse. Good ol’ Mickey is always looking for new ways to bring his particular brand of vacation fun to more people across the globe. His newest plan? Two new ships for Disney Cruise Line. Frankly, I’m surprised he didn’t think of this before, given how successful the cruise line seems to be.
The Disney Cruise Line fleet currently consists of the Disney Magic and the Disney Wonder. In 2011 and 2012, the cruise line will introduce two new unnamed ships. The new-builds will be taller than the existing ships and contain 1,250 staterooms each. This addition will double the capacity of Disney’s fleet.
I’m sure the company will have no problem booking these rooms. This year, other family-friendly lines have been [% 2306284 | | dropping fares %] to fill Caribbean sailings. I’ve seen no such sales on Disney, which still lists its lowest-priced inside cabin at $849 for seven-night cruises. Compare that to the $399 price tag on other mainstream lines, and you can figure out that Disney cruises are quite popular.
Plus, for the past few years, Disney has been repositioning its ships from their usual Port Canaveral (Orlando) homeport to California and Europe to meet demand for new itineraries. With new ships, the cruise line will be able to accommodate customer requests for more than just Bahamas and Caribbean sailings without constantly having to move ships around.
If you can wait a few years, you and your family will have more options than ever to take a cruise with the famous Mouse. If you can’t wait, book your next Disney cruise soon, because I have a feeling the existing two ships sell out far in advance.
