It’s slow season for travel to Asia, which means more opportunities to earn bonus miles for flights to Tokyo and beyond.
United Tokyo Bonus
Between November 4, 2015, and January 30, 2016, United is offering the following fare-based bonuses for travel on United or All Nippon Airways between San Francisco or Los Angeles and Tokyo/Haneda:
- 7,500 bonus miles in first (F, A fares)
- 5,000 bonus miles in business (J, C, D, Z, P)
- 3,000 bonus miles in economy (Y, B, M, E, U, H, Q, V)
The bonuses amount to roughly double the flight miles for business class, somewhat less than double for economy, and somewhat more for first.
Caveat: If you’re considering flying in coach on the strength of this promotion, be sure to confirm that your ticket qualifies for the bonus; many of the most popular coach fares are ineligible.
American Asia Bonus
Meanwhile, American is offering double miles for nonstop flight between the U.S. and Asia (Beijing, Hong Kong, Seoul, Shanghai, Tokyo), on American or Japan Airlines, through December 15.
As with United’s bonus, only miles for select fare types are doubled: F, A, P, J, R, D, I, Y, B, or H fares on American; and F, A, J, C, D, X, I, W, E, Y, B, or H fares on JAL.
And the same caveat: If you’re considering flying in coach on the strength of this promotion, be sure to confirm that your ticket qualifies for the bonus; many of the most popular coach fares are ineligible.
