Earn Bonus Delta Miles for Starwood Stays

For those who prefer to earn airline miles for their hotel stays, here’s another option for travel this fall and winter.

Through January 31, Starwood Preferred Guest members can earn 1,000 bonus Delta miles for stays booked on the AIRPRODL rate plan of two or more nights at participating Starwood hotels.

Deal or No Deal

Non-elite Preferred Guest members who elect to earn Delta miles for their stays normally net two miles per $1 spent; elite members earn three miles per $1. (Note: Through the Delta-Starwood Crossover Rewards program, Delta elites earn an extra 1 mile per $1 spent.)

So, for non-elites a two-night stay at a $100-a-night rate would earn 400 miles. And adding a 1,000-mile bonus would amount to more than tripling the payout. Of course, the multiple rises or falls along with the rate.

For context, Delta miles are worth around 1.2 cents apiece. So netting 1,400 miles for a stay would amount to a reward or rebate worth $16.80. That’s less than 10 percent of the cost of our hypothetical $200 stay, but it sure beats earning miles at the normal rate, which would have generated a rebate worth just $4.80.

In general, there’s more value to be had from earning hotel-program points for hotel stays. And Starwood is offering double points for stays through December 20. But if Delta miles are a priority, this offer is at least a significant improvement on the normal earning rate.
