Shopping
The main street in Ensenada for shopping is Paseo Calle Primera, also called Avenida Lopez Mateos. There are many shops to visit and side streets with more shops to explore between Avenida Blancarte and Avenida Ruiz.
Malecon
Ensenada has a nice walking path down the side of the harbor called “Malecon,” where one can take a stroll, eat seafood in fine restaurants, and see the sailboats and yachts docked at the piers.
While visiting the Malecon, go to the Fish Market (Mercado de Mariscos) to buy fresh fish.
Bargain Prices for Prescription Drugs
If you take regular prescription drugs and get them refilled in Mexico, you will be amazed at how cheap the prices are. Be sure to only take the drugs you actually have a prescription for when you return to the USA, and be prepared to show your prescriptions to the U.S. Customs officials.
Shopping, Scuba Diving, and a Natural Wonder
Rancho “La Bufadora” is just a short one-hour, scenic drive, south from Ensenada. It is well worth the trip. When you arrive at the ranch, you park (cost is $2), and then you will enjoy a nice walking area with street performers, small shops, nice bars, and a restaurant. You pass all of this on your way to see the natural blowhole. Be prepared to get wet when visiting the blowhole because as the ocean water rushes in, it spouts up high in the air to the delight of the crowd. On hot days the water feels terrific!
If you want to go scuba diving, go to Dale’s Dive Shop. There is a boat that leaves in the morning and one that leaves in the afternoon. Make reservations in advance (646/174-2092) because the diving slots can fill up quickly. The cost is $25 to $35 per person depending on the size of your group.
Resorts
Las Cañadas is a nature park campground with fun things to do for the entire family. It has a nice lake, a water park with lots of slides, zip gliding over the lake, hanging bridges, paddle boats, ATVs to rent to take on trails, well-maintained campgrounds, and good fishing. Plan to stay at least two days to really enjoy it.
Bars (Cantinas)
There are plenty of bars in Ensenada to chose from. Hussong’s is the oldest, established bar in Baja California, having first opened in 1892. For countless generations, Hussong’s has been the spot to mix it up with the locals and enjoy a beer with a shot of tequila.
