Flam Shopping
Flam is the jewel of Norway with its majestic mountains, thundering waterfalls, and narrow valleys. In 2014 the population was around 350. Yes, three hundred and fifty! However, they receive almost ½ million visitors each year. Enjoy these tips on shopping while you’re there.
The Mall of Norway
Flam has about 4 blocks of souvenir shops with lots of variety and competition. Whether you are looking for Norwegian or Scandinavian motifs or simple souvenirs, you’re sure to find them at this mall. Most items are naturally culture-driven Norwegian and Viking. Stock up on warm items including furs to keep you toasty warm when you get home.
The Coop
The coop is the market where you can stock up on water, get some lunch, and whatever personals you may need. Notice how health-conscious they are to American markets.
Frim Fram Sauce in Flam
“The Frim Fram Sauce” is a song sung by Nat King Cole in the 1940’s. My point is, don’t forget to shop for some food! Flam has wonderful restaurants to explore. Get a taste of their history and try some of the many varieties of local ale.
Whatever You Do, Be on Your Best Behavior
Remember, Flam only has 350 or so residents. There are concerns from the locals of the oil aroma the cruise ships bring and the rising city costs from hosting tourism. Also, there are few public restrooms. It will serve you well to be polite and follow all the rules while shopping.
