Glasgow Things To Do
Glasgow offers a lot for those who want to explore the rich history of this area. You can head down to the riverfront, explore a Scottish cathedral or just walk along the city’s streets for a day out you won’t forget.
The City Sightseeing Bus
Double-decker buses leave from St. Georges’s Square and stop at all major attractions. For a small fee, you get a 24-hour ticket and then hop on and off as you please. If you’re tired of sitting, head for a walking or biking tour so you can get a full understanding of the city’s many historic sites.
The Clyde River runs through the center of the city. You can take a cruise down the length of the river and then head for the Scottish Maritime Museum at Braehead to understand the history of the waterfront area. Twenty-six bridges cross the river. The most famous one is the Clyde Arc with a distinct half circle that has become a symbol of the city. It has a pedestrian path so you can walk across it.
The Glasgow Cathedral
One of the few medieval churches to survive intact from the Scottish Reformation, the cathedral has a soaring interior and huge stained glass windows. Walk through the local cemetery next door.
The Kelvingrove Art Galleries
Housed in a large Victorian style building, this is Glasgow’s main art museum and one of the finest museums in all of Scotland. Famous exhibits include works by Scottish artists such as Charles Rennie Mackintosh, a locally renowned architect and artist, as well as works by international artists like Salvador Dali. The museum also has many other items such as a collection of silver and porcelain and many temporary exhibits of contemporary art and photography.
The Glasgow Lighthouse
Located in the center of the city, the lighthouse is home to a list of ever-changing exhibits about modern Scottish life. You can even climb to the top to get a view of the entire city.
