If you watch a lot of movies or TV, some of these sptos might be familiar to you. Films like “Clash of the Titans” and “League of Extraordinary Gentlemen,” and TV shows like “The Odyssey” and HBO’s “Game of Thrones,” are set here.
The Azure Window is a beautiful natural arch on the west side of the island that reaches out into the Mediterranean that can be reached on foot if you want, but also by sea. Nearby, the Blue Hole is one of the great diving spots of the world, but you can also see it from above the water. Make sure to wear really good shoes because the walk is very rocky and slippery.
The Fungus Rock has been named after a special plant growing only on top of this rock. The Knights of St. John believed in the curing power of this plant. A watchtower was built to ensure no one stole the fungus. Nearby is the Inland Sea, where the water has come into an enclosed area through tunnels in the rock. You can swim or navigate the caves by boat, exiting under the Azure window arch.
In the center of Victoria, the largest city on Gozo is the Citadel. Built between 1599 and 1603, the Citadel houses a small cathedral encircled by spectacular bastion walls that offer a fantastic view over the small island.
The National Shrine of the Blessed Virgin of Ta’Pinu is a Roman Catholic basilica and national shrine located on a cliff near the village of Gharb. Hand carved statues for the Stations of the Cross lead up to the cathedral.
Ggantija Temples in Xaghra are one of the most important archeological sites in Malta. The origins of Ggantija date back to 3600 – 3200 B.C and are built from monolithic sized limestone and coral blocks measuring about fifteen feet.
While on Gozo, you can also visit Ta’ Dbiegi crafts village where you can watch as pottery, leather craft, jewelry and blown glass are made. Ramla Beach is also a popular spot to relax.
