The Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center
The Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center is 25,000 square feet of displays, a theater, and hands-on exhibits designed to teach people of all ages about the Lewis and Clark Expedition. The center acts to specifically teach how Lewis and Clark traversed the Great Falls. It also teaches about the wildlife and plant life they encountered, as well as the native peoples they met. The facility is situated on a cliff above the Missouri River, affording patrons a great view from the area outside the building.
There are two main ways you can access the Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center. You can drive there and park in the parking area. Alternatively, you can hike there by walking along the Riverside Trail. The interpretive center is one of many access points to this trail. Also outside the main building of the interpretive center is a nice amphitheater and a statue of Seaman, a Newfoundland Dog purchased by Merriwether Lewis to accompany the expedition as a guard dog, a companion, and a reminder of home. The amphitheater itself is used to put on a number of different talks and shows about the expedition.
Parks
The are a number of parks in the area that are stunning. Just down the road from the Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center is Giant Springs State Park. Giant Springs is one of the largest freshwater springs in the country, with a flow of about 153 million gallons of water per day at a constant, chilly temperature.
Great Falls is also home to the very impressive Veterans Memorial Park that overlooks the Missouri River. You can get a great view of the river and contemplate the veterans who have served this country.
