Guayaquil Transportation
Guayaquil is the biggest city in Ecuador, and nearly every trip to this country will include some sort of visit to this sprawling, exotic city.
Terminal Terrestre and Buses
Much of the travel around the country begins in this enormous bus terminal. It’s about the size of a shopping mall and contains many of the same amenities. The municipal bus terminal is directly across the street, and the airport is not far away. Porters to carry your luggage are available for a small fee, but they can be difficult to find. If you have a lot of luggage, be prepared to possibly carry it a long way.
Flying in Ecuador
The Aeropuerto Internacional Jose Joaquin de Olmedo is a modernized airport. It’s the closest airport to the famous Galapagos Islands. There are also short flights to any number of other South American destinations.
Taxis
You should only use registered taxis unless you are completely comfortable with the language and your surroundings. Registered taxis are all yellow. For most simple types of transit, like a ride from the airport to one of the big hotels downtown, expect to pay a fixed price of about $3 to $5. Other destinations go for a 50 cent flat fee plus about one cent for every ten kilometers, which is the going rate in Ecuador. Make sure your taxi driver turns the meter on when you get in the vehicle.
