Are you excited? You are planning your first visit to Havana, Cuba. With recent improvement in relations between the U.S. and the island nation, tourism is experiencing a huge boom. However, that doesn’t mean that you’ll find everything you might need for a resort vacation in Cuba. Here are some helpful tips to ensure you enjoy your time abroad.

No matter what you have planned for your Havana adventure, these luggage options are ideal for a short or long-term stay.

Medications and Beauty Products

Beside your regular prescriptions, make sure to pack any standard over-the-counter medications you think you might need as they are expensive and hard to find. Triple-antibiotic ointment, Pepto, Immodium, cough drops and allergy pills are just the beginning. Don’t forget aspirin or Tylenol, sun block, sun relief and hand lotion. Make sure to bring the limit for all your regular beauty products, as if you can actually find the brands in Cuba, they will be highly priced.

Many guests to Cuba discovered a lack of this basic almost everywhere they visited. Pack a few rolls and save your sanity.

Light Clothing, Sandals, and Hats

As with many hotspots in the Caribbean, Cuba enjoys warm temperatures and sunny days much of the year. You won’t wear any heavy sweaters during your visit, so don’t waste the weight and space on them. Anticipate living in as little clothing as possible. You will want sunglasses and a hat with a wide brim that covers your ears and shades your neck to avoid falling victim to heatstroke. Drink plenty of bottled water to stay hydrated.

The Tax was Repealed

In 2016, the Cuban government repealed the 10% tax previously placed on the use of U.S. currency. There is no longer a need to exchange your cash before you visit.
