Hurricane Dean could have been devastating for Mexico and the Caribbean islands, but most tourist areas only suffered minor damages. If you want to know how the hurricane affected your favorite cruise ports, CruiseCritic has an in-depth report on the storm’s impact.
According to CruiseCritic, a partner of SmarterTravel.com, Costa Maya was the hardest hit cruise port. The port will be inaccessible for the next six to eight months because 50 percent of the pier was destroyed. The town is also experiencing heavy flooding.
The Riviera Maya (including Cozumel, Playa del Carmen, and Cancun) and Belize had very little damage and are returning to normal business operations. Many Caribbean islands experienced flooding and are now clearing debris from fallen branches and trees.
If you’re scheduled to leave on a Caribbean cruise soon, check with your cruise line to see if your itinerary will be altered. You can also look up your sailing on CruiseCritic’s Itinerary Change Roundup.
