It’s Now Easier to Get Around Dulles International Airport

Washington’s new Silver Metrorail line will is now operating, and the Washington Flyer bus is ready to connect. Buses will run nonstop between the airport, arrivals level, door four, and the new Metro station at Wiehle-Reston East every 15 to 20 minutes between 6:00 am (7:45 on weekends) and 10:40 pm. The fare will be $5 each way. Buses feature onboard Wi-Fi and plenty of space for baggage.

Silver line trains will join the existing Orange line at East Falls Church, running through the central District on the combined Blue-Orange line routes and terminating on the Blue route at Largo Town Center. For now, Metrobus will still operate its 5A Dulles route to/from L’Enfant Plaza and the Rosslyn Metrorail station.

Ultimately, the Silver line will be extended all the way to Dulles, but that’s several years in the future, and funding isn’t certain. Meanwhile, the new service will make access to Dulles easier than it has ever been.

The main problem is access when you arrive late at night. The last 5A bus leaves at 11:40 and the last Washington Flyer at 10:40, so if your flight arrives after that, your only choices are a shuttle or a taxi.

The other two area airports are also accessible through public transit. Reagan Washington National is, of course, the access champ, with a Metrorail station at terminals B and C. And those of you flying Air Canada,  Frontier, JetBlue, Southwest, or Sun Country can avoid the long schlep from the rail station to Terminal A by hopping an airport shuttle at B or C.

From Baltimore Airport, Metrobus B30 connects to the Greenbelt Metrorail station on the Green line. The bus fare is $7.
