Martello Museum

West Martello tower is a Garden Club tower that was built on an old African slave burial ground. The East tower has a historical museum with wartime relics, refugee items and multi-cultural art displays. Hours fluctuate and there’s not very good anchorage if you come by boat. Both offer self-guided tours.

Key West Cemetery

You can catch ghost tours in this multi cultural cemetery that last about 90 minutes. Even if you don’t believe in haunts and ghasts there is still very interesting history to learn about the area. There is an African slave portion that serves as a stark reminder of a brutal past.

Stock Island

You can find the Botanical Gardens here. You can see many fascinating species and a butterfly garden while strolling on the boardwalk. Spring and summer are the best times to visit and admission is by donation.

Dry Tortugas

This trip will easily take a whole day. You can get there by boat, seaplane, catamaran ferry or bareboat. When there you can snorkel to see an amazing array of sea life or explore Fort Jefferson. Camping requires a small a fee and make sure to pack out your trash so as not to endanger wildlife or spoil the scenery. Bring your own supplies as all you will find at the camground are salt water toilettes, grilles and picnic tables.

Fort Zachary Taylor State Park

This park has a lovely beach and good bird watching, wildlife viewing and snorkeling. The beach is more pebbly than sandy so wear foot protection. The fort offers a pretty view of Key West. There is a small admission price.

Southernmost Point

This bed and breakfast claims to be the southernmost establishment in the US. It has charming Victorian architecture.

Mile 0

The 0 mile marker at the beginning of hwy 1 is a popular selfie spot.

Gay/Lesbian

The biggest time for that rainbow pride is Halloween. People worldwide gather here to collaborate, dress up and enjoy festivities.
