Koblenz features many historic landmarks and opportunities for exploration.

Deutsches Eck

Deutsches Eck (German Corner) is the confluence of the Rhine (German: Rheine) and Moselle (G: Mosel) Rivers. First erected in 1897, a copper statue of Kaiser Wilhelm I on horseback, weighing 53 tons, towered over the area.

After the U.S. damaged it in 1945, what remained was taken down. The base of the monument still stood and became a monument to a United Germany. After reunification of Germany in 1990, a replica of the original statue was constructed, with 16 flags, representing each of the German Lander (states). It also contains three chunks from the Berlin Wall.

Basilica St. Castor (G: Kastor)

This is the oldest church at Koblenz, with construction beginning in 817. The church is located near Deutsches Eck. Dedicated to Saint Castor, the church played a major role in religious life in the community.

Through additions, modifications, post-war repairs, the church still stands, though not exactly as it looked in the ninth century. Inside. beautiful 12^th century paintings, ornate walls and other décor provides a breathtaking look at the historic church. Outside, gorgeous gardens provide a peaceful place for reflection.

Rhine and Mosel Promenades

Both Rhine and Mosel rivers have a promenade with both waterfronts offering outstanding views.

The Rhine Promenade features cafes, a view to the fortress on the opposite bank as well as opportunity for boat tours. The Mosel promenade features a gorgeous view of Koblenz and some slabs from the Berlin Wall.

Memorial to Victims of Nazism

Erected in green parkland in front of government buildings is the Memorial to the Victims of Nazism.
