Malgrat de Mar Travel Guide
Choosing where to go in Malgrat de Mar is half the fun, with beautiful beaches, exciting activities and a variety of places to stay, eat and shop. Find out more about where to go, how to get there, and where to rest your head at the end of the day in this quick travel guide.
Coming, Going and Staying
Unsurprisingly, you’ll find the best and fanciest hotels by the beach. Amaraigua, Serphs Maripins, and Rosa Nautica will all give you a chance to fall asleep to the sound of the waves. If you’re looking for a bargain, Monteplaya has the best value and guests rate the staff and food as excellent. However, you will be close to train tracks, which is not quite as relaxing as the sound of rushing water. The Hotel Tropic Park is also an option, though people report that the high building next to the hotel will block the sun at various times of the day.
Getting Around
If you’re planning to go back and forth from Barcelona or other popular areas of the country, then there are trains and buses that will take you there. The schedule, routes and booking are all fairly straight-forward, and it’s cheap to ride! There are also trams that will take you on quick rides throughout the major areas of the city. Public transportation is the most recommended way to get around, regardless of your destination. You should have at least basic Spanish down for these trips, as you’ll most likely need it. Be careful where you exchange your money: the more popular areas tend to hike up rates in a major way.
What to Do
Between the beach, markets and restaurants, you’ll find something to check out during your stay. Markets are set up throughout the week where you can find local wares from clothing to traditional souvenirs. Or check out the fishing and diving shops, where you can find the equipment you need to discover what hides below the surface of the waters. Restaurants recommendations include Bar Liceo 1 if you’re looking for tapas and Bei Pepe if you’re looking for more traditional entrees. There’s also the Tearoom Milan if you want tasty cakes served them alongside your favorite beverage.
What to Pack
Travelers suggest taking an umbrella, especially if you’re going outside of the rainy season. While your bag may get a little crowded, it will save you some cash as sundry items can be expensive to buy. Take converters when at all possible for your electronics, but be prepared to run your appliances at less power than you’re used to. Take a camera to capture those incredibly views, and a bathing suit to experience the waves.
