Medellin Transportation
Medellin is one of the largest cities in Colombia and is situated nicely in the Aburra Valley. It possesses a robust transportation network that includes buses and air flights.
Take the Bus
To get to Medellin from Bogota, you can easily take a bus. The bus terminal in Bogota is divided into five modulos, or units, with buses that leave Medellin leave from the Modulo 2 – Azul terminal. At the bus terminal, you’ll find restaurants, cafeterias, bars, and shops.
Once in Medellin, you can reach different parts of the country. Medellin has two bus terminals, Terminal de Norte and Terminal de Sur. Terminal de Norte serves the north coast and surrounding towns, including Santa Fe de Antioquia. Terminal de Sur serves the southern coast.
The Medellin Airports
Medellin has two airports. The first is the large, main airport in Rionegro. The second is the smaller, regional airport of Olaya Herrera. From Rionegro, taxis will take you into Medellin for a fixed price of 20 euros, with the journey taking close to two hours. Another option is the mini-bus service that leaves from the airport and stops at Hotel Nutibara, conveniently located in the center of Medellin. This journey takes about an hour, but is far more affordable at only three euros.
The Metro Cable
The MetroCable is an attempt to bring inexpensive metro transportation to the city. It uses a very impressive series of cable cars that seat eight people and leave every 20 to 30 seconds. The metro only charges on the way up and the ticket serves as a transfer to the city’s train system.
