Take in the Views Along Pebble Beach
Pebble Beach, also known as 17 Mile Drive is a toll road that costs $8.75 a car to drive, but you can show the guards your receipt for the day and travel it as many times as you like once you pay. 17 Mile Drive start in Carmel and ends in Pacific Grove. Although some may note that you can get similar views up and down the coast, your hard pressed to find such spectacular scenery in contiguous 17 miles. You can also drive through areas with huge mansions, so if you’re looking to site see, this is a great road. You’ll appreciate the informative signs as well as the views.
Monterey Bay Aquarium
If you visit only one attraction in Monterey, it has to be the Monterey Bay Aquarium. Considered the best aquarium in the United States, it sits next to the bay and has both outdoor and indoor exhibits. If you’re in Monterey between April and December, you might just be able to see from the Aquarium’s back deck real wild humpback whales that come into Monterey Bay to feed. Whale watching is quite a past time in Monterey, so don’t miss when the whales come by and put on a show of their own.
If you’re a fan of John Steinbeck, you’ll recognize the name Cannery Row from his 1945 novel. This is the Cannery Row he immortalized, basing much of the book after real people and places. The Monterey Bay Aquarium sits on Cannery Row, so visit the area afterward. The 18 mile Monterey Bay Coastal Recreation Trail runs through it, so you can want to walk or bicycle to get around.
