Morocco What to Pack – Clothing and Supplies Tips

Morocco What to Pack

Morocco is warm for most of the year, but there are cultural considerations to your packing that may seem unusual for people used to Western culture. So if you’re planning to travel to Morocco, here are some tips to keep in mind.

Bring a backpack or rucksack along. It’s easy to carry when you are out and about, especially if you are using public transportation.

Morocco is hot and humid, so definitely pack light clothes. In the city, you are safe to wear a nice shirt and long trousers or long shorts. However, in the countryside T-shirts are seen as ‘underwear’ and shorts are perceived as inappropriate. In small towns and villages, sometimes they ask women in short sleeves and shorts to pay a small ‘fine’ – so if you don’t want to stand out as an obvious tourist, it’s important to dress conservatively. Also remember that women must cover their heads when entering a Mosque, so make sure to pack a wrap of coverup if you want to take a look at some of Morocco’s beautiful Mosques.

Nice hotels provide shampoo and soaps, but if you’re traveling outside of the cities, it is better to bring your own. It is also tough to get a hold of other toiletries and medical supplies that you may need. These items include toothpaste, toothbrushes, contact lenses and solution, spare glasses, makeup, razor blades for shaving, feminine hygiene products and any medicine that you need.

There are lots of beautiful things to take pictures of in Morocco, so definitely bring a camera. However, keep in mind that the locals do know how to spot tourists taking pictures, and if they see you taking a picture of them, they often charge you a fee.
