Delta is gearing up to launch new service between Atlanta and Shanghai, China, on March 30.
If you remember last year, there was heated competition for new coveted service between the U.S. and China. Delta, along with United, won approval for these new routes, and United’s San Francisco to Guangzhou service is set to start on June 18.
But that’s not the only big news for transpacific travel. All-business-class flights have been a popular development between the U.S. and Europe, and now Singapore Airlines has announced plans to reconfigure five planes to serve all-business class flights. Service will be phased in on the New York-to-Singapore route in mid-May, and will be introduced on the Los Angeles-to-Singapore route by late September.
With all these open-skies agreements, new routes, and new premium service options, Asia seems closer than ever before. With so much access and the current poor exchange rate in Europe, it will be interesting to see if more leisure travelers start looking east for their vacations.
