As mid-priced rewards credit cards go, the MileagePlus Explorer card from Chase is a pretty solid choice.
For $95 a year, waived the first year, cardholders get the following:
- Fee waived for first checked bag
- Priority boarding
- Two United airport lounge day passes per year
- Primary collision damage waiver
- 10,000 bonus miles annually after charging $25,000
Beginning June 1, there will be a new benefit added to that list: no foreign transaction fees.
That amounts to a 3 percent savings on overseas purchases, which could be substantial for international travelers. Of course, many savvy travelers are already using credit cards that waive foreign transaction fees, including most of Chase’s other travel-rewards cards and the Sapphire Preferred and Ink Bold cards.
Extending the benefit to the United card is a definite win for current Explorer cardholders, and another reason for those who don’t already have the card to at least consider it.
