The Bureau of Transportation Statistics reports that the country’s 19 largest airlines posted an on-time arrival rate of 82.6 percent in February, up from 77 percent in January. This also represents a huge improvement over February 2008 (68.6 percent).
I recently reported that airline complaints have dropped as carriers cut back on capacity. Well, the same theory—fewer flights makes it easier to provide good service—applies to punctuality, too. So while a drop in capacity has some drawbacks, such as fewer options and the potential for higher prices, at least it makes it easier for airlines to arrive on time.
But never mind what the stats say—what has your experience been like?
