The Hotel
Our one bedroom/one bathroom condo unit at the Costa de Oro was on the 6th floor overlooking the Pacific Ocean. We’d been to Mazatlan a few times before on cruises and wanted to stay for a week. We expected much less than what we received at the hotel and were overall very pleased with it. The location couldn’t have been better.
Mazatlan has several areas and some are spread out, like the new Pueblo Bonito Emerald Bay and the El Cid. Our hotel was one of the oldest in Mazatlan, but was exceptionally clean, well maintained and in an excellent location in the golden Zone. We walked often along the main road past a variety of local and tourist shops into the heart of the golden Zone, close to great restaurants and shopping, but also on the beach. Despite the heavy traffic noise from this road, we were still able to enjoy the comforts of the room. Daily maid service was provided and efficient, and one hour of free internet was provided with our RCI week.
Restaurant Recommendations
Mary’s for burgers and Chalva’s for good cheap Mexican food and the BEST banana cream pie. Both across from the hotel in a little plaza, Angelo’s Italian and Cilantro’s on the beach at Pueblo Bonito. Ernie Tomates in the golden zone and of course, Tony’s on the Beach close to Pueblo Bonito.
Tour Suggestions
Mazatlan Frank, who we had met previously on a cruise and had taken us on his awesome country tour, was booked again. He gave us an excellent tour of the city with his entertaining style. We had anawesome visit to the Pacifico Brewery…yummie. You’ve never been on a factory tour until you’ve done a few of these in Mexico.
We had booked a day of offshore fishing with Flota Bibi fleet, and we hooked and boated two Striped Marlin andone Sailfish – an incredible day with the Bibi Fleet! If you’ve paid for gas in the U.S. lately, $250 for a full day of offshore fishing is an absolute bargain, even if you don’t like to fish! The weather was comfortable in May, not too hot but sufficient to enjoy the ocean and pools.
