La Rinascente is a network of department stores. This is the place to visit for foreign tourists, if you buy an amount over 155 Euros you are eligible to prepare a tax free form and refund Value Add Cost which means you will get back about 14.5% of the money you spent.
Portobello is a shopping mall located in the village of Carini, just outside of Palermo. Portobello is an old style shopping mall with about 20 shops where you can find items including branded Italian clothing at low prices. In order to get to Portobello, you’ll need to drive or take a taxi, you can also stop there on your way to the airport from Palermo. Specialties of the mall include Mafia items and desserts!
This shop is across from Via Dei Calderai. The window display is very colorful and the details on the items are intricate. The shop carries colorful belts, bags, and leather objects in lots of colors and styles. Every item is original and is made with great quality, and the two owners of the shop make everything by hand. They can also build you custom pieces from leather they have in stock. Purses in the shop cost around 100 euros for a medium sized bag.
The Vucciria market is located in the Vucciria district. The market is filled with local fruits, vegetables, spices and delicacies. You can also get sportswear, CD’s and DVD’s, bric a brac. Sicilian cookbooks can be bought at the market alongside the ingredients you need to make the recipes in the cookbook.
Many small shops around Palermo and all of Sicily carry ceramics. You can find everything from cups and ashtrays to dishes and even tables. Depending on which store you visit, you’ll find a wide range of styles and designs to choose from.
