Puerto de la Cruz Shopping
The Canary Islands are home to many forms of shopping. Puerto de la Cruz has a variety of neighborhoods to explore for an array of items.
Top Stores and Markets to Explore
Shopping is found everywhere, though the markets are where many people choose to shop. A Sunday market near the Botanical Gardens includes booths filled with fruits and vegetables, jewelry, and all sorts of different crafts. The Centro Comercial Martianez is beautiful, and has a glass roof that resembles the pyramids. It’s found on the east side of the city and you can shop for clothes, jewelry, and food. La Oratava is an area where you will find some of the better shopping. Mercado Municipal is also one of the larger malls and is where you will find clothes, food, and typical tourist items.
What to Shop For
A number of locally made items are found within the Canary Islands, including rum, palm syrup, as well as local mojo sauces. If you’re looking for books, the largest (and most extensive) bookstore in all of the Canary Islands is found here. Avoid electronics as most are knock-offs. For household electronics you need, it’s best to finish the Jumbo supermarket chain for such things as hair dryers and other items.
How to Get the Best Deals
The deals are always flowing within the open air markets. Some are secondhand and therefore it’s buyer beware. Haggling is accepted and encouraged when shopping in these areas. Cash is best to have on hand, though some markets will accept bank or credit card as well.
