Travel by Ferry

There are two ferries to Pulau Pangkor from the mainland. You can catch one at Lumut which takes about 40 minutes; the other is a 10-minute trip from Marina Island. The ferry prices are said to be about the same from each point of origin but parking is cheaper at Marina Island. Hold onto your tickets because these are your return tickets as well; it is included in the original price. When you return from a trip to Pangkor, remember to take the correct ferry.

The island is too small for buses taxis are the primary method of travel. When you think of a taxi, you would think of a sedan but on Pangkor, they are more like vans. The cost for a ride depends upon the number of passengers in the van. These vans are also available for hire for 2-hour island tours. Peak period taxi service is more expensive and be careful of operators who try to rip you off.

Always bring contact information of the owner in case something happens (i.e. bike breaks down or you lose the key). Regular bicycles are not recommended as there are a numbers strenuous slopes on the road, particularly in the northeast region.

There are also flights from Kuala Lumpur several days a week. The trip is less than an hour, but it is more expensive and there are weight limits for luggage. The trip to the hotels is usually by boat.
