Not going back to the office anywhere soon? Why not make the most of your work-from-home situation and work somewhere a bit more exciting—like Bali, Colombia, Italy, or Greece? Sojrn, an “adult study abroad” company, can make that happen.
Sojrn takes care of all of the hard parts of becoming a temporary digital nomad (like finding actually nice accommodations, setting up workspaces with wifi that’s fast enough to handle Zoom meetings, and organizing activities to make the most of your trip).
Sojrn founder Tara Cappel was inspired to launch the company during the pandemic, when Cappel was unable to operate trips for her other business (group tour company For the Love of Travel). “I began to think about what the future of travel could look like in a world where remote work was widely accepted, and people could bring their work with them while they based themselves from somewhere new,” said Cappel.
Cappel modeled Sojrn off of her gap year experience in college when she took a year off to learn languages in Europe. “Being in the native countries, immersing in the cultures, and talking with the locals made acquiring the languages easier and more fun because the cultural context helped me understand it on a deeper level,” she enthused. Sojrn follows a similar ethos, looking to help people deepen their experience of a destination in a more authentic way than might happen on a shorter trip.
The four-week experiences start at $2,800 per person and include accommodations, a local host to help you on the ground, dedicated workspaces, four themed activities, and resources to help smooth your transition to working abroad).
The program hosts between 20-40 people at a time, so you’ll have a built-in friend group to explore the destination with.
All trips are built around dedicated themes—think philosophy in Greece, wine tasting in Italy, wellness in Bali, and learning Spanish in Colombia. Can’t make it work this year? You can sign up for a waitlist for trips in 2022, which includes tempting options like conservation in Cape Town, technology in Tokyo, and fashion in Paris.
