Should You Head to a Florida Beach This Summer?

Many avoid Florida beaches in summer because of hurricane season and oppressive heat. Yet this season is my friend’s favorite time to go—she loves the tropical setting and cheaper prices. If you’re thinking of heading to Florida this summer, here’s a pros and cons breakdown.

  • Cheaper prices, particularly along the coasts. Historically, people get out of town between June and September to avoid the hot weather and major storms. If you’re willing to take this risk, you may be able to snag a great deal on a hotel room, flight, rental car, and even attractions admissions.
  • Less crowds in some parts of the state. If you’re avoiding the theme parks and sticking to the beaches, you may find you’ll have some areas (especially in southern Florida) all to yourself.

  • Weather-related snafus and associated expenses. If your trip gets canceled because of a hurricane or tropical storm, you may be left holding the bag. As a precaution, it’s a good idea to consider purchasing [% 306176 | | trip-cancellation insurance %] at the same time you book your trip.
  • Certain beach areas (such as northern Florida/the Panhandle) see an increase in tourism in the summer. If you visit this part of the state, you may find heat, hurricane risk, and hordes of other tourists.

As with any travel experience, it’s your own preferences (and your risk-willingness) that will determine whether a Florida summer beach vacation is right for you. To get more trip-planning and destination ideas, check the resources on
