Southwest offers fares from $29 O/W*

In the days of near-weekly fare increases from major and low-cost carriers alike, Southwest has dropped its lowest one-way fares to $29 on 10 routes for travel through August 22. Not surprisingly, the $29 fares are available on short-haul routes and must be booked at least 21 days before departure.

Routes include Birmingham/Nashville, Birmingham/New Orleans, Boise/Spokane, Dallas (Love)/Tulsa, Houston (Hobby)/Austin, Houston (Hobby)/Corpus Christi, Houston (Hobby)/San Antonio, Indianapolis/Chicago (Midway), Jacksonville/Tampa, and Seattle/Spokane.

In a news release, Southwest says “When planning a summer trip, many Customers have to weigh the idea of flying versus driving. These $29 one-way fares will give Customers a low-cost option when planning travel and in most cases cost them less than a tank of gas.” With gas prices nearing $4 a gallon in some places, Southwest’s statement actually may be true for travel this spring and summer. A round-trip flight, including taxes and fees, will cost around $80.
