St Xavier’s Church…
This world Heritage Monument was constructed in 1965. The Basilica of Bom means Jesus basically ” Good Jesus or Infant Jesus “. This church contains the body of St Francis Xavier. Old Goa was formerly the portuguese colonial capital in the region. The legacy of their presence here includes several beautiful churches and catherdals, now collectively a UNESCO world heritage site.
Famous throughout the catholic world, the Basilica of Bom Jesus houses the mortal remains of Goa’s patron saint, Francis Xavier. With marble flooring & decorated with frescoes and inlay work, the 16th century cathedral is considered to be one of the best examples of baroque architecture in India.
This is the largest church in Old Goa & was build by portuguese gothic style in 16th century.
Old Goa gets crowded in the days leading up to the feast of St Francis Xavier on 3rd December each year.
