Yesterday, I linked to a New York Times article speculating that Airbus might be floating the idea of standing-room-only service on some of its future aircraft. Well, Airbus didn’t let this nasty rumor fly for long. According to CNNMoney.com, the manufacturer’s spokesperson actually called the report “crap.”
I guess we stand corrected. Apparently, this was all a misunderstanding over how Airbus could fit 853 passengers into its 500-seat A380. Rather than arrange people vertically, Airbus would configure the plane with all-coach seating, eliminating the usual three class distinctions.
Let’s just hope this is the last we hear about standing room on commercial airplanes.
