It’s a travel deal fit for the dollar store: The Singapore Tourism board and Singapore Airlines is advertising $1 room rates for travelers’ first night in Singapore. The dollar rate is for standard hotels, but there are also fancier options available for $20 to $40 for the night.
The deal, named the Fabulous Singapore Stopover package, is available for passengers on Singapore Airlines and SilkAir flights who have a stop in Singapore en route to another destination. The deal is available for bookings made by May 15 for travel through September 30.
The package also includes other goodies, such as a voucher to use at the airport, free airport ground transfers, free admission into select attractions (including the zoo and the National Orchid Garden), half-off at participating restaurants, a prepaid phone card, and Singapore Airlines’ Boarding Pass Privileges.
This promotion reminds me of Icelandair’s successful attempts to get more passengers to pause in Iceland on their way between Europe and North America. To me, it seems like an easy and inexpensive way to check out a destination you might not have put on your itinerary otherwise.
