Warnings and Dangers in Nice: Stony Beaches
The stony beaches in Nice are a great place to visit. However, there are some dangers and warnings that you need to be aware of.
Stones
As the name suggests, these beaches are made up of pebbles and rocks instead of sand. They aren’t comfortable on bare feet, so the natives wear plastic jelly shoes to the beach. You can wear any type of full beach shoe, but flip flops aren’t recommended. You can buy a beach mat at most stores, and some beaches rent chaise chairs. If you want to sunbathe, you will need one of these to be comfortable.
Glass
The other danger at these beaches is glass. Many beach goers drink while they are there, and throw their bottles down on the beach. When these bottles break, it leaves glass that can give bare feet a nasty cut. Nothing will ruin your trip faster than cutting your foot and not being able to walk comfortably. It’s recommended that you keep your shoes on even when you are swimming to avoid getting cut.
The Bright Side
The water is usually calm here, and the weather is nice. You don’t have to worry about getting sand everywhere.
To Avoid the Rocks
If you would like to avoid the stony beaches, you can go up the coast a bit to Juan les Pins or Antibes. These beaches are sandy instead of rocky, but they are generally more crowded than the stony beaches. The best time to visit is early in the morning before they get crowded.
