Transportation in Cabo San Lucas: Taxi Service
There are lots of different taxis, shuttles and other forms of transportation in Cabo and the best option for you may depend on your budget, your timeframe and how many people you’re traveling with.
To and From the Airport
Drivers in the airport will bombard you with offers of transport starting inside of the airport. It’s best to arrange transportation ahead of time – most of the Cabo resorts offer shuttles, for example. If you have transportation already arranged, your bus is outside, so you can ignore the people harassing you in the airport. It is about 40 minutes to most of the Cabo resorts from the airport, and most of the drivers charge per person. If you do bargain with someone inside the airport, be sure to agree on a price ahead of time.
If you are a larger group of people, traveling by taxis is your best option. All taxis are vans, and the fare is good for up to 4 people. Always ask for the fare in pesos (after they told us in USD) – you’ll save a considerable amount by paying in pesos because the exchange rate averages 13-14 pesos for the dollar.
Most of the hotels and resorts have shuttles that you can use very inexpensively or for free. Sometimes these shuttles only go between the hotel and the airport, but you can often use them to get in between your resort and downtown or to nearby restaurants. If you do use the hotel shuttles, be sure to tip your driver generously.
